Age Rule: This event will follow the USAT “Age-Up rule”. This means that the age of the athlete is determined not by the age on race day but the age the athlete will be on December 31, 2014. Example, if your child is 8 years old today but will turn 9 on, let’s say November 20, 2014, he/she will race as a 9 year old. This may require that your athlete goes from the Junior category to the Intermediate (longer race distance). If the distance is a concern of yours, you may choose to race-down (stay in the Junior category). But this must be done by 4:00 pm on May 3, 2014 (day before race). He/she will still get a final race time, however, you will not be eligible for awards (still get finisher’s medal). We want to make sure that kids are comfortable with the distance, have fun and are safe as a priority!
- Distances for the Splash and Dash will vary, depending on the age of participants:
- Junior 6 – 8, 50 yard swim and 500 yard run
- Intermediate 9 – 11, 100 yard swim and 1K run
- Senior 12 – 14, 200 yard swim and 2K run
In accordance with USA Triathlon rules, an athlete’s racing age is his/her age on December 31st of the competition year. Splash and Dash will assign athletes to their respective age division according to their age on December 31 per USAT rules.
